First Care Emergency Medical Service was the first ambulance service that Gary Metcalf, the lead instructor and owner of First Care Education Center began his career in EMS and the Medical Profession.  Anthony "Tony" Wilson was the owner and operator, starting with one ambulance, he built that service into a booming business, providing quality health care.  His inspiring leadership and dedication to his dream was a solid influence in the forming of First Care Education Center.

After Years of training and eductional opportunities, Gary Metcalf opened First Care Education Center in February of 2013.  With the goal of "Quality" Educational Experience, the goal of First Care Education Center is to provide diverse educational opportunities to clients.  Interactive classroom experiences provide a wealth of knowledge and a great educational experience.

 

First Care Education Center provides experienced, well seasoned instructors.  Support from the community is the backbone of First Care Education Center, where people are our greatest product.

Instructors and Edcuators for First Care Education Center are experience professionals in their fields.  What ever the course for the healthcare professional and first responder, our focus is to bring you leaders in their field.  We believe that edcuation comes formally and through years of experience.  Our instructors not only give knowledge, but are continually learning  to bring quality edcuation to their students.

/  OUR STUDENTS

First Care Education Center, teaches to a great base of students.  From the beginner, taking their first steps into the medical profession to the experiences providers.  Many of our students bring to the table years of experience.  We will alway appreciate the part that the student plays in the education process.

YOUR LEAD INSTRUCTOR

GARY METCALF

Gary has always lived in Columbus, Georgia.  He graduated from Kendrick High School in 1984.  After graduation he went to school at Columbus College (now Columbus State University), where he studied Criminal Justice.  Graduating in 1988 with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, he perused a career in Criminal Justice, during this time he took an EMT course and the rest is history.

 

Gary graduated from his EMT course in 1991, while working as a plumbers helper, he received his call from Tony Wilson to work for First Care EMS.  During this period of time he worked for Med Life EMS, and Columbus EMS now Columbus Fire and EMS.  He branched out in his career and became focused on rescue and continuing his education in EMS.  In 1993, he became a Georgia Paramedic.  In 1994, he passed his National Registry Paramedic Examination.  His focus on training with Columbus EMS and Fire and EMS was high angle rescue, dive rescue, auto extrication and other EMS and rescue disciplins.  With fire training he became a driver and pump operator.  His dedication to Fire and EMS continue by working with Harris County EMS and volunteering with Waverly Hall Fire Department, Waverly Hall Georgia.

 

Gary recieved his Associate Degree in Nursing from Columbus State University in 1999.  He went to work for Columbus Regional at the Medical Center in the Intensive Care Unit and later Doctor's Hospital in the Emergency Department.  He now works Nursing Services, Education department for Columbus Regional Healthcare Systems.  In 2012 he completed his Bachelors of Science in Nursing.

 

Gary went to work for Omniflight Helicopter EMS in 2008, Air Evac Life Team in 2009, and Airlife in Camilla GA.  He went to work as a Program Director for the EMS program at Columbus Technical College and then returned to the Hospital Setting as a Nurse Educator.  He still currently works as a paramedic for Harris County EMS.

 

After years of Precepting and Instructing, he received his Level II (EMT instructor) then his Level III (Paramedic Instructor), license from the state of Georgia.  With the formation of First Care Education Center his goal is to allow a forum for education to the citizens and healthcare providers of Columbus and surrounding areas.
